Italy still European Champion

Braving the lion in its den the Italians are once again the European Champion. In front of a full house at the ‘Neptunus Familie’ ballpark the game between the leading European Champion and the leading World Champion produced a convincing 8-3 victory for Italy. It is Italy’s tenth European title in history. The Netherlands, twentyfold European Champion, had to settle for second best for the ninth time in history. read more »

Spain on third again

Spain has won a bronze twelve times already. In 2003, 2005 and 2007 even three times in a row. Two years ago they ended on a disappointing ninth, but Saturday evening the Spanish team were back were they seem to belong. On third after a 6-8 win over Germany. read more »

The Dutch bite the dust

The Dutch team was only a few yards short of victory against the ever unbeaten Italians. With all bases loaded and a 3-3 mark Dwayne Kemp slugged the ball far and wide over the fence. Unfortunately, the ball cleared that fence on the wrong side of the foul pole. Half an inning later it was the titleholder who scored the winning run. read more »

The Czech Republic fifth against Sweden

The Czechs concluded the European Championship with a 6-5 win against Sweden. Catcher Petr Cech batted in the winning run in the ninth on a walk-off base hit, securing a fifth place in the tournament equalling their best placement so far. Cordemans leads the Dutch to the finals

When pitcher Rob Cordemans led the Dutch to an historic World Championship last October, the 37-year-old veteran told the world he was not ready to quit just yet. And tonight he showed why. The Dutch pitcher is still top notch. In what was more or less a semi final he single-handedly cleared the path to the finals of the European Championship.
